The Co-Pilot Shelf is a most useful assistant for the LT rider. It is mounted firmly and vibration-free on top of the dashboard utilizing the BMW rubber compression bushings (well nuts). It is designed primarily to support a GPS in the central position and other gadgets as required on the accessory arms. The positioning of the GPS unit is ideal as the rider doesn't have to look completely away from the road ahead while still being able to see the screen. Another bonus is that the Co-Pilot shelf provides shade to the instrument panel during the day and prevents reflections from the panel to the windscreen at night. If you have one of the later model K12LTs that came standard with the BMW Navigator unit, using the BMR Co-Pilot Shelf System to support the GPS and replace the factory mount is a relatively easy installation and results in less vibration than the factory mount. You will also be able to gain back your map light that was set aside when the Navigator was installed at the dealership.
Accessory arms are available to hold additional equipment. These attach to pre-drilled threaded rivets in the Co-Pilot shelf. All power cables, antennas etc. can be neatly routed through a 1 inch round port with rubber grommet. An additional accessory necessary for mounting a GPS in the center of the Co-Pilot is the adjustable Tilt Mount, or our new Cross-Bar Bracket which will support any bar mounted system (such as the Touratech mount) which is particularly useful for other makes and models of GPS.
The Co-Pilot is manufactured from aluminum alloy and is finished in a high-quality non-reflective matte black power coat. Installation is not difficult and step-by-step instructions (with pictures) are provided along with our BMR hardware kit.
